ANNE MOSS (nee WALSH, CLASS OF 1957)
Friday, 25 August 2017

Anne is a devoted mother and grandmother and stays busy playing bridge and travelling interstate to help look after her beloved grandchildren. The following are some of Anne's delightful memories of her early career that she shared with us during a visit to Monte earlier this year.

"I worked for the Prime Minister's Department in Sydney as a clerical assistant and was transferred to Admiralty House, Kirribilli whenever the Governor-General was in residence. On a particular occasion,
I was asked to fill in at Government House in Canberra whilst my counterpart was away - I had become very friendly with the secretaries who came from Canberra and they wanted me up there.

I was thrilled as I had never been to Canberra . That night when I told my family of the news, they reminded me that the following Tuesday I was due to make my College Debut with my Monte Class of 1957 at the venue Mark Foys.

The next day I spoke with the Official Secretary. To ensure I didn’t miss my big event and didn’t miss the opportunity to work at Government House in Canberra, he arranged for me to fly to back to Sydney after being chauffeured in a Crown car to the hairdresser and then to the airport. The next day I flew  back to Canberra -all at Government expense, if you don't mind (keep this under your hat!).

Our Sydney address was a convict built house - come simple sandwich shop, in Sussex Street in the City of Sydney. Sometimes when we worked back on a Friday night to complete the weekly bulletin we were driven home and I was always extremely amused at coming from such a place of power and authority to our simple home in a crown car."
